Is Astrill VPN safe?

You are definitely safe when using Astrill VPN

Astrill VPN’s security features are actually quite impressive. In addition to the techniques Astrill provides, it also has some technical expertise behind it. In fact, it was Astrill employees who created the popular OpenVPN and Stealth VPN protocols. Now that’s a sign that they know what they’re doing when it comes to security and privacy.

Astrill VPN Protocols and Choices

Astrill VPN uses military-grade encryption encryption. Currently, this service is supporting the following protocols:

  • OpenVPN
  • L2TP / IPSec
  • IKEv2 / IPsec
  • StealthVPN
  • WireGuard
  • OpenWeb
  • Cisco IPSec
  • SSTP
  • PPTP

With that said, make sure to avoid SSTP and PPTP protocols unless you know what you’re doing. These are outdated and insecure traditional protocols that should only be used under certain circumstances.

All in all, Astrill’s protocol options are impressive, which is a big plus for any VPN service.

Does Astrill VPN have a disconnect feature?

This VPN has a switch that automatically disconnects the internet in case your VPN is unexpectedly disconnected. It’s an essential feature for any premium VPN service. With the “kill switch” enabled, Astrill VPN will keep your connection encrypted and your IP address secret.

I tested Astrill VPN’s auto-disconnect switch on my desktop, the results didn’t disappoint me, it worked consistently every time I disconnected the VPN.

Also I also check if Astrill VPN leak IP and DNS. As a result, I did not find any DNS, IPv6 or WebRTC leaks. This proves Astrill VPN is safe in hiding your IP address.

Does Astrill VPN Log?

Astrill VPN claims to not store user logs, but their privacy policy clearly states that they are tracking some data like your connection time, session duration (which will be deleted immediately after disconnection). connection), bandwidth consumption, device type and Astrill VPN version number.

Overall, Astrill VPN’s no-logs policy isn’t perfect, but it’s not too bad either. After all, Astrill VPN is based in the Seychelles, which means it’s not subject to harmful intelligence-sharing and data retention laws like Fourteen Eyes alliance members.

List of Astrill VPN Servers

Astrill has a small server system compared to other services

If you put all the VPNs in a straight line and rank the companies from high to low, surely Astrill VPN will hide behind NordVPN and CyberGhost. Because both have more than 5000 servers, while Astrill has just over 320 servers in over 59 countries.

The number of servers of Astrill VPN is quite rich

Some people may question my math ability after visiting Astrill’s website as these lists are considerably shorter. I contacted support and they explained that this is a list of server locations. All servers are grouped for balance, which means a location can have more than one server.

Furthermore, the server list only mentions those that can be accessed using popular protocols such as OpenVPN or IKEv2. Protocols, such as OpenWeb and Stealth VPN, are only found in the client’s application list.

Compatible on almost any platform for any device

Windows, macOS, Linux: As I said earlier, the user interface on Astrill’s desktop applications is very efficient and simple. You just enter your username and password, choose a protocol and log in to their server. The app lets you customize your service, with options like enabling or disabling DNS leak protection. You can also keep everything as is, no problem.

It’s a standard desktop VPN client, with several servers and some nifty and attractive features. For example, you can easily specify which apps you want to include in Astrill VPN and which should be kept separate.

In addition, Astrill VPN also offers an application for Linux users. You’ll have to set up the Astrill VPN Linux app manually, but you’ll get the full Astrill GUI with most of the VPN’s functionality.

Android and iOS (iPhone/iPad) : The Astrill VPN mobile app is better than what you’d expect, it’s a mobile version of the desktop, with some minor changes. The important thing here is that the Astrill VPN iOS and Android apps work great.

Speed test

Astrill VPN one of the fastest VPNs

Astrill VPN is no less than other VPNs when it comes to providing a dizzying speed. We also conducted several Astrill VPN speed tests in different locations around the world and the results were as follows:

astrill vpn speed
The speed of this VPN is commendable

London, United Kingdom

  • Download: 76 Mbps (62% reduction)
  • Upload: 20Mbps (90% off)
  • Ping: 51ms

New York, USA

  • Download: 68Mbps (66% off)
  • Upload: 10Mbps (95% reduction)
  • Ping: 122 ms

Singapore

  • Download: 50Mbps (75% off)
  • Upload: 4 Mbps (down 98%)
  • Ping: 256 ms

According to the above results, you can see that the download speed of Astrill VPN is really impressive. While low upload speeds can be related to a few reasons, most users won’t consider it too much of a problem.

Astrill help unlock Netflix

Netflix and other streaming services

Astrill Really good VPN for Netflix , especially in terms of speed that even the top VPNs envy.

However, regarding unblocking, NordVPN or ExpressVPN will work better. We were unable to run Netflix on any of our servers in Canada, and Australia and Germany also denied our request. But we are optimistic and have a feeling that in the future Astrill will not let us down.

astrill vpn features
Astrill VPN has very unique features

However, even if Netflix is your only reason to use a VPN, you should consider other features, such as pricing and trial periods. Astrill is one of the most expensive VPNs with no free trial nor money-back guarantee.

The cheapest plan is $10.00/month if you pay for a year. Exercise the monthly option is $20.00/month. This is even more expensive than ExpressVPN which is already considered by many to be expensive.

When you connect, speed is not an issue. I’ve noticed that Netflix movies and TV shows are played in high definition, with occasional slight stutters. It is certainly not enough to criticize Astrill VPN.

Does Astrill VPN support torrents?

Astrill VPN supports torrents. In fact, Astrill VPN examined torrent data in a way that few other VPNs have. When you select a server, select a P2P VPN server from the drop-down list. However, not all Astrill VPN servers are torrent-friendly, but there are many that are and seem to offer decent speeds. There is also a port forwarding option, but be careful when doing this – it’s not a good security decision.

Astrill VPN offers Live Chat, Video Tutorials and FAQs

Customer support

When it comes to customer support, Astrill VPN does a pretty good job. There are plenty of options available to you including contact forms, live chat, FAQs, and even video tutorials.

Live chat support 24/7, along with email and phone support is one of the useful ways that every VPN provider should have. Also, if you use the contact form, you will get a reply within a few hours. Finally, you can also refer to the manual along with the FAQ pack.

8

Is Astrill VPN the Cheapest VPN?

Price

Unfortunately, Astrill VPN is one of the most expensive VPN providers. The price of Astrill VPN varies by plan and decreases with contract length

  • 1 month package will cost $20.00/month
  • 6-month plan will cost $15.00/month
  • 1-year plan will cost $10.00/month (billed annually)

Payment options at Astrill VPN include credit card, UnionPay, AliPay, Perfect Money, cryptocurrency, and bank transfer.

astrill vpn price
The price of this VPN service is really high

Unfortunately, Astrill VPN doesn’t have a trial version for you to feel before committing. Another sad thing is that they don’t guarantee money back. That proves Astrill VPN recommends choosing the shortest service plan to see if you like it or not.

In addition to those plans, Astrill VPN offers a VIP service for a fee of $10.00/month. The aim is that they target Asian gamers and customers, but the price is quite expensive. They offer private IP addresses for $5/month and flash routers starting at $39 that allow you to connect multiple devices.

9

Should You Get Astrill VPN?

Conclusion

After all of my reviews of Astrill VPN, I can affirm that the security and privacy setup is solid, despite some questions about the logging. However, with excellent support service, it is still considered a reputable service site.

Astrill VPN has good speeds and it also works well with both torrent clients and Netflix. However, all plans are expensive, and there is no way to try Astrill VPN other than by downloading Android apps from Europe and North America.

Finally, while I don’t consider Astrill VPN number one, it is still among the best VPN services.
